SMDT winter Holiday Camp

Science Behind Winter Magic

February 2027 (dates TBC)

At a Glance

Winter is magical and we want to enjoy it! We explore many of the wondrous phenomenon winter offers, like why we have winter, the wonder of frozen bubbles and how nature survives in the cold with insulation or hibernation.

As we are part of nature, this includes us, and what better way to do this than through making an Igloo on our special day trip to the mountains.

Past camps have visited NONAM (North American Native Museum), played arctic olympic games, learned how to build a bonfire (and roast some marshmallows of course), experimented in the forest to design insulation with natural materials.

Our final project is a Hackathon on how to enjoy winter in a nature-loving kind of way.

What to expect

What would we do?

This five-day design thinking camp focuses on the question, “How can we eat well for people and the planet?”

To do that, we practice sustainably prepared food and explore “How can we make more considerate choices in our eating habits for us humans and for our mother earth?”

Being in the beautiful fall season, if weather permits, we will make full use of being outdoors!

How would we do it?

Through Projects
Learn the 5 steps of the Design Thinking process through hands-on projects in our sustainable maker space.

Through Play
Foster an interest in learning, empathy, diversity, critical thinking, and a creative mindset THROUGH GAMES and fun. We are on summer holidays after all!

Through Excursions
We learn about our local community to build the foundation for global thinking. Explore local sustainability mindset topics like CULTURAL DIVERSITY and BIODIVERSITY (Animal Shelter, FIFA museum, local playgrounds, FARMS, etc)*

Become an empathetic explorer, a systems thinker, a problem-solver, and a change-maker
